This booklet was written in 1991 to describe and provide detailed information for building a low cost incubator to hatch eggs.
I built the prototype in 1989 after a futile effort to find a unit large enough fit my needs and my budget. After two years of flawless use and realizing the profit of hatching quail I decided to write this booklet.
Every effort was made in the writing of this booklet to be as detailed as possible to help make the construction and use as rewarding as I could for the builder. I hope others are able to save the money I did by constructing my own incubator.
The unit described in this booklet, if properly adjusted and controlled, should hatch most fowl eggs with little problem.
This booklet contains information on; choosing the old refrigerator, preparing refrigerator, construction, heater, thermostat, egg trays, egg turners, tray racks, wiring, hatching, brooders, operating instructions and more. Also contained are four drawings; general arrangement, wiring diagram, water tray and egg tray with turner assembly.
PLUS: Four hatch record pages to document date of setting, tray number, specie, projected hatch date, quantity set, live hatched and percent loss.
The prototype worked great. It was large enough to hatch about two hundred quail or about 60 chickens per tray every two or three days using all six trays. Smaller or larger refrigerator could be used.
Check it out and see just how easy it is.
